I remember a time in my most youthful and irresponsible days when it was perfectly acceptable (and often encouraged) to buy a new dress or outfit every time I head out for any type of event or function. Living in a lively city at 20/21 this would mean that I was spending a good chunk of change of clothes every week. It’s not because I didn’t have anything to wear it was simply because I had the money in my hand and no thoughts or plans on saving for anything. In the truest sense of the phrase, I lived in the moment. Though those days are far behind me, I still sometimes get into that mentality. Which is what happened when I received the invitation to our cousin Rexana’s Paris-themed bridal shower. To be honest I was stressing out a little more than I am willing to admit over what to wear and thought the whole time I was going to have to go out and get something new.

So I decided, before I jet down to the mall that I would shop my closet. I thought surely I must have something that errs on the side of Parisian chic. In true Paris fashion, I decided to stick to the less is more adage. I started with these shoes, added some stripes, and obviously a LOT of black. I was really happy with the final product and even better my bank account was happy, too.

This look is decidedly feminine and definitely inspired by the shapely silhouettes of the sixties. We’ve been watching the CNN mini series “The Sixties” and that combined with the latest season of Mad Men has been a great source of inspiration for me. I’ve always loved this skirt and am trying to make more of an effort to include it in the mix. It’s a nice departure from my jeans and t-shirt routine. Plus there is just something about a full skirt paired with a bold red lip that instantly makes you feel more fabulous. Va-va-voom!

I hope you have a great weekend!

Utilizing the weekend for shutting down and regenerating for the week ahead is something I value highly. It hasn’t always been this way but in the past year or so it has become of utmost importance. Taking time to curl up with a book, lay in the sun poolside, tackling your DVR – whatever your vice it’s always important to reset and let the happenings of the past week really sink in. Naturally our weekend was filled with a lot of down time. Aside from making our way to the movies for X-men (which was AWESOME – just btw) we stuck relatively close to home catching up on our favourite shows, cooking, and reading.  Of course today is Memorial Day and we are heading to the ‘rents for a family barbecue (yum!).

Happy Memorial Day!
