Gifted striped top, Vintage skirt, Forever 21 earrings, Thrifted bow pumps, Thrifted purse, H&M sunnies

I remember a time in my most youthful and irresponsible days when it was perfectly acceptable (and often encouraged) to buy a new dress or outfit every time I head out for any type of event or function. Living in a lively city at 20/21 this would mean that I was spending a good chunk of change of clothes every week. It’s not because I didn’t have anything to wear it was simply because I had the money in my hand and no thoughts or plans on saving for anything. In the truest sense of the phrase, I lived in the moment. Though those days are far behind me, I still sometimes get into that mentality. Which is what happened when I received the invitation to our cousin Rexana’s Paris-themed bridal shower. To be honest I was stressing out a little more than I am willing to admit over what to wear and thought the whole time I was going to have to go out and get something new.

So I decided, before I jet down to the mall that I would shop my closet. I thought surely I must have something that errs on the side of Parisian chic. In true Paris fashion, I decided to stick to the less is more adage. I started with these shoes, added some stripes, and obviously a LOT of black. I was really happy with the final product and even better my bank account was happy, too.

Outfit || Geo Shift Dress

Forever 21 hat, flea market sunnies, Pink Owl dress, shopStylust cuff, gifted clutch, Aldo sandals

Keeping it relatively short and sweet today. I am in love with this dress. It’s fun and bright and I feel dressed up without having to try too hard. It’s been almost deathly hot here lately so deciding what to wear when you really don’t feel like wearing anything at all is a daily battle. I know, it’s a tough life. I figure if that is my biggest daily battle, I’m sitting pretty. And now for a little slightly mandatory light reading.

How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe

I had this idea (vaguely) this past weekend and came across this awesome blog. I found it so inspiring and it reminded me that it’s okay to stick to basics and to stay true to what works for you in your life. It’s also inspired me to take on the challenge of creating a capsule wardrobe for myself.

Family of Two – Darling Magazine

I LOVE Darling Magazine. Every time I read it I’m all like, get out of my head! They have just amazing writers and I can 99% of the time relate to what they are saying.

How to Tell If Someone Really, Really Likes You

When I heard Zooey Deschanel launched Hello Giggles with two of her good friends, I thought, great another Goop-like celebrity blog to add to the pile. However, though I don’t read every post, when I do I never regret it. It’s light, funny, oh-so-honest, and no pretentious word making up happens there. A+.

See You in the Summer

As I previously mentioned, I’ve been trying lately to learn more about photography. It is a slow, complicated process and we have just begun but every time I learn something new it’s like a whole world has been opened up. We were able to get these shots here by simply shooting at the right time of day (just before sunset) with the right amount of light and by using a longer lens. We still have a ways to go  but I am already way excited and can’t wait to shoot again!

I was also really excited to be able to style my wedding shoes with a more casual outfit. I got the shoes with that in mind but it’s been so hot lately I haven’t really had an interest in putting on an outfit let alone pretty satin pumps. It feels like it’s been summer for, like, ever now. There’s a part of me that feels bad but I am kind of already starting to look forward to fall weather. Alas, I shouldn’t complain. But I should schedule a beach day ASAP.
